Swimmers have the hardest job keeping their curls in good condition. Chlorine is a disinfectant, so it is used to remove the dirt, oil and bacteria (which is what you want in a public pool!) but if you are a regular swimmer, you are at risk of damage. See our top five curly hair hacks to protect your curls when swimming.

1) Water

The best way to start your swim is by soaking your hair with clean water before entering the pool. Your hair will act as a sponge and will soak up the clean water first rather than the chlorinated water whilst swimming.

2) Swim Cap & Oil

Using a swim cap will prevent a certain amount of exposure to the chlorine. Apply the Trepadora Inca Radiance Smoothing Elixir to your curls before you put on the cap. The oil will repel the water and nourish your curls at the same time.

3) Leave-In Conditioner

After you have applied the Inca Radiance Smoothing Elixir it is time to add the Babassu Quench Leave-In Curl Primer. Adding this step into your swimming preparation will allow you to apply the L.O.C method while you swim.

4) Cleanse

after your swim it is back in the shower you go with the Gojiberry Mint Reviving Hair Rinse. This cleanser is key to removing any chlorine that managed to penetrate your curls. This gentle but effective cleanser will lather in your curls but lock in the moisture. You can use this product on a regular basis without stripping your hair.

5) Deep Condition

Regular deep conditioning treatments are a must for you mermaids! Our Quinoa Repair Deep Conditioning Treatment is protein-rich so it will repair any damage to the hair's cuticle. If your gym has a steam room, apply it before you enter for the ultimate deep treat, your curls will love you for it!
